University film lifts lid on why bikers crash

Road safety researchers at Nottingham Trent University have produced a thought-provoking educational film aimed at understanding why motorcyclists crash.

Called Mental Models Intervention – Motorcyclists, the film looks at the reasons why bike riders are involved in a disproportionally high number of crashes on our roads, and offers suggestions for reducing them.

It looks at the issue of motorcycle collisions from both sides, explaining not only the errors bikers can make that lead them to crash but also how the  actions of car and van drivers can place us in danger, and the types of real-life situations that lead to collisions.

There are plenty of takeaways for bikers on the danger zones where we need to ride more cautiously as we see how the road looks through car and van drivers’ eyes.

The film’s goal is to highlight the biggest dangers riders face so both four-wheeled and two-wheeled motorists can keep each other safe.

The film has been produced in collaboration with UK Road Offender Education.
