Manchester’s riders share their safety tips

Always wear suitable clothing no matter what the weather is like, ride within your limits and seek advanced training.

Those are just three of the safety tips received by 2Wheels Greater Manchester (2WGM) as part of a competition which ran earlier this year.

The competition invited Greater Manchester-based riders to share their top safety tips in order to provide 2WGM with a greater insight into what riders feel is important to them.

Among the advice submitted by riders included:

  • Always wear suitable clothing no matter what the weather is like!
  • Ride within your limits and be safe
  • Seek advanced training (from IAM RoadSmart, ROSPA, BikeSafe etc)

Other tips touched on subjects including wearing bright clothing, carrying out regular maintenance checks and remaining focused and vigilant at all times.

Karen Delaney, from Safer Roads Greater Manchester, said: “We were delighted with the response to our competition – particularly the encouraging nature of the tips submitted by riders.

“Statistics show that motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users. However, there are a number of practical common-sense steps that can be taken to reduce risk.

“These include wearing the right gear to protect you in the event of a crash, making sure you understand the rules of the road, ensuring your bike is properly maintained and receiving the right training to learn how to ride safely.

“We would also like to encourage other road users to look out for motorcyclists, particularly at junctions.”

2WGM would like to thank everyone who entered the competition. The three winners have been selected and contacted.
