The National Young Rider Forum (NYRF) has relaunched its New Rider Hub, offering young motorcyclists an updated, trusted source of practical advice to help them stay safer on the road.
Originally launched in 2022, the New Rider Hub is managed by the National Young Rider Forum – a partnership of road safety professionals and motorcycle stakeholders with a shared commitment to improving safety for young riders.
The Hub is primarily aimed at 16–24-year-olds, although much of its advice is valuable for powered two-wheeler riders of all ages.
The refreshed content has been shaped by research into young motorcyclists funded by The Road Safety Trust. The research highlighted a strong demand from young riders for clear, credible and accessible information on subjects including protective equipment, training and hazard perception.
The updated Hub now includes practical guidance on:
- Motorcycle helmets and SHARP ratings – helping riders understand how helmets are independently assessed and make more informed choices.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – including advice on choosing suitable kit and avoiding counterfeit or non-compliant products, particularly when buying online.
- Mental health and wellbeing – recognising that staying safe on two wheels is about looking after the rider as well as the machine.
- Hazard perception – helping riders develop the skills to identify, anticipate and respond to potential dangers before they become critical.
The new hazard perception resources will also form the basis of a forthcoming campaign designed to encourage young riders to strengthen their ability to read the road and anticipate risk.
Young riders can also find straightforward advice on CBT and further training, buying and insuring a motorcycle, security, maintenance and choosing appropriate riding clothing.
Heidi Duffy MBE, facilitator of the National Young Rider Forum, said:
“The New Rider Hub was created to give young riders somewhere they could go for practical, trustworthy and relevant information – and it is just as important today as it was when we first launched it.
“Young Riders Matter has given us a much clearer understanding of what young people need, how they use their bikes and, importantly, how they want to receive information.”
For employers supporting young people who travel to work, college or training by motorcycle or scooter, resources such as the New Rider Hub can provide an important additional layer of support – helping young riders make safer choices, develop their skills and better understand the risks they face on the road.
